My favorite money saving app https://stroopels.com/ibotta/ https://stroopels.com/ibotta/#comments Wed, 19 Sep 2018 05:12:40 +0000 http://stroopels.com/?p=95 Free money for buying groceries? Sign me up!

I will say, I was extremely skeptical when I heard that I could get free money for buying groceries that I was already going to buy anyway. But, I gave it a try, and it is absolutely amazing.

Plus, if you sign up with this special link, you will get a $10 bonus in your account (after redeeming your first rebate in the first 7 days).

And, if you are new to Amazon Prime, you can get $20 for signing up. So, recap, you can get up to $30 for signing up through this link and then getting an Amazon Prime account!

How does it work?

It is even easier than cutting coupons.

  • Open the Ibotta app
  • Select your favorite store
  • See what coupons they have.
  • Click the + symbol, and it add it to your account.
  • Buy your groceries
  • Scan your receipt.

It’s that easy! Once you get at least $20 worth of cash back, you can redeem the credits for actual cash, or gift cards. They aren’t ridiculous points either… $50 in credits equals $50 in your account.

The best part

You can use manufacturer coupons too! So, for example, $1 off with your manufacturers coupon, and $1.50 off with Ibotta app, and you can save $2.50 off the product.

Important things to know

  • Your cash back comes after you’ve scanned your receipts and redeemed the credits in your account. That means you will pay full price for the item at the store (minus manufacturer coupons).
  • There is a $20 minimum balance before you can redeem your credits
  • Occasionally, a very short video will play (like 10-15 seconds) or you will need to answer a quick question before you can apply the coupon in the Ibotta app. After adding  50 items, only one video, and 3 quick questions popped up. These are designed to be quick and easy, so it won’t take up precious time.
  • The Ibotta app works at most major stores, but not every store. Check the app for your favorite store. A few stores that I use the app at are Costco, Walmart, Target, Smith’s, Macey’s, and Winco Foods.
  • Some offers require you to purchase more than one item to get the credit. This is indicated by a symbol over the item like this:

Discounted medicine https://stroopels.com/medicine/ Sun, 16 Sep 2018 03:52:01 +0000 http://stroopels.com/?p=150 Have you went to the same pharmacy your whole life and just payed what they asked? That’s what I did for a long time, until I learned about two super awesome ways to get deep discounts on medicine, legally. Prepare to have your mind blown.

Costco:

So, perhaps you’ve heard of a place called Costco pharmacy? All kidding aside, they have excellent prices on many of their medicines. But, what if you don’t have a Costco membership? No worries, federal law prohibits companies from requiring people to have memberships in order to buy their prescriptions. Now, you’re probably concerned that you won’t make it in the door without a card, since they are so concerned about everybody having one when they walk in… But, when you go in, if they ask for your card, just tell them you’re only there to get your prescriptions. If they cause any additional problems for you, just head over to customer service and they will help you out. They don’t always have the best prices on medicines, or other products for that matter, but it’s worth checking out.

GoodRX

Guess what? There’s a super easy, free tool that will tell you who has the best prices in your area. Even better, this same website usually has discount cards that you can print out and bring to the pharmacy for an even lower price than retail. The website is called GoodRX, and they also have an app. In addition to that, you can set email alerts to know when a price is lowered or a new coupon is available. Did I mention it’s free?

Here is a basic example of actual prices, as of September 15, 2018.

Retail:

Omeprazole (30 capsules, 20 mg each)

  • Walmart: $28
  • Target $64
  • Walgreens: $67
  • Costco: $14

Same medicines, same quantities, drastically different prices. The comparison tool offered here has already payed itself off by giving you the ability to save $53 between Walgreens and Costco. But, it gets better.

With the free card you can print from the GoodRX website, the prices drop down to:

  • Walmart: $14
  • Target $22.08
  • Walgreens: $24.30
  • Costco: $5.25

With this knowledge, you’ll be unstoppable.

Most affordable contact lenses https://stroopels.com/contact-lenses/ https://stroopels.com/contact-lenses/#comments Sat, 15 Sep 2018 21:03:35 +0000 http://stroopels.com/?p=143 I have worn contact lenses for roughly 15 years. In the beginning, we bought the lenses from our optometrist, because there weren’t many options out there. Over the years, a lot of companies have sprung up, offering cheap, name brand lenses. But who really has the best deal?

Costco is a great place to get your lenses if you are only able to buy a few at a time. For a 12 pack of Acuvue Oasys lenses, here are general prices as of July 2020.

  • Costco: $54
  • 1-800-Contacts: $77.99
  • Coastal.com: $60
  • Walgreens: $72.99

So, it looks like 1800contacts is the most expensive place to shop, right? If you buy their lenses at the cost they list, then it definitely can be the most expensive. However, 1800contacts will price match, and even beat competitors prices by 5%. They don’t make this an obvious thing, because most people will just pay what they ask for, and accept that it is probably an ok deal, which it is usually not.

So basically, Costco is for short term, one box at a time situations, and 1800contact is for long term.

I just do a search on the web for “cheap contact lenses” and tons of sketchy websites, and a few legit ones pop up. Obviously, do not buy from other websites, because they may be selling counterfeit lenses, or they may scam you altogether. The point of the web search is to identify who has the best deal on the lenses you need, so that you can take it back to 1800contacts and have them match it for you.

One consideration, is that the website you are matching it to must be a United States based company. Another thing is that many contacts lense retailers have hidden fee’s that they add on at checkout. 1800contacts considers these fees in the final cost that they match. It stinks, but it’s still cheaper than other places, and legitimate lenses.

For example, say supercheapolenses453.com offer a 12 pack of lenses for $100. They also charge a 4.00 handling fee. So, 1800contacts would consider the cost of the 12 pack to be $104, and then take off 5% from $104.

Since it can be hard to distinguish who is U.S. based and what fees they charge, I suggest making an excel/google sheets document and compiling your own list of websites and prices. Check to see how much a 12 pack and a 24 pack is as well, since the difference can be significant. Then make a list like pictured below. That way, when you contact 1800 contacts to do the matching, you will already have all of the information ready to go.

In summary, do not pay the listed price at 1800contacts or you will surely pay more than you would with competitors. But, if you price match and do a little research, you can have a great deal from a reputable company.

Now, for the matching part of things. I prefer to do it over their chat option, since #1 I don’t like talking on the phone, but #2 it is easier to link them directly to the listing you are matching.

Just go to their site, click chat, and say you want to buy some lenses and you want to match them to www.——-.com for $— Per box. Then include the link. They will research the listing, and then let you know if it’s acceptable or not and get you a final price. Having the spreadsheet like I show above is handy because if they say the site won’t work, then you can immediately show them the next cheapest option without delay.

If you need a Contact case to go with your lenses, These are my favorite. Remember to change your case monthly so you don’t get an infection. 🙂
